Glitter, Glitter Everywhere!

While I was in Portland for the holidays my sister-in-law mentioned that she would like to get a hot pink tutu for my adorable baby niece. I said I could make one, and found a couple of spools of pink tulle at Joann's that were the perfect color. What I didn't realize was that the fabric was glittery, which  made the tutu exta magical looking, but also extra messy!

I made the tutu pretty simple, I just folded a few layers of tulle over an elastic band and stitched through both layers. The first tutorial I tried was a no-sew pattern that recommended tying the tulle around the elastic. It looked great in the designer's pictures but it worked out differently for me. The knots stretched out the elastic too much and left gaps. I tried sewing instead and was much more successful. Now it's time for lots of vaccuming and mopping to get rid of all the glitter in the house! Right now it looks like we've had a visit from a pixie, or as a friend put it "like you killed a vampire." Either way, it gets everywhere.

Have a very sparkly (or not, if you prefer) week!

Yoda says "may the Force be with you!"

Since I finished the sweater I made with my Christmas yarn, my next move was to break out the Star Wars amigurumi book that my BFF got me. She knows it's the perfect gift for a nerd who loves to crochet! I made Yoda first because the book came with yarn to  make him and because, honestly, who doesn't love Yoda? He's especially adorable in amigurumi form, a style that makes everything cuter. I can't wait to make all the characters, but he's what I've got so far.

Have a great week and may the Force be with you!

Cinderella Doll Pattern

Remember this little beauty?  I first showed her to you in this blog post back in September. She is now living happily every after at my parents' house. My mom even made her a beautiful box to sleep in, which you can see in her blog Laughing Cat Creative Enterprises!

You can now get the pattern for this doll on Etsy and Ravelry. Don't ask me how to make the box, though, you'll have to ask Momma Cat!

My 1st Project of 2016 is done!

And now you will see why I needed all of this cuddly Hometown USA yarn!

I saw this pattern for a men's knit jacket in a book called "Classic Knits" and immediately wanted to make it. When my mom asked me what I would like for Christmas I thought of this yarn. It took almost 13 skeins to make the jacket but it was worth it for how cute my husband looks in it! I even have a few skeins left, enough for some cozy socks!

When I realized how thick the fabric was I was worried he wouldn't be able to wear it. Luckily, it's been getting down to the mid-30s in the mornings and evenings in the last few days since I finished it. Talk about good timing. Now I'm ready for the weather to get warm again!

Hope you are staying warm this winter!
